First thing I realized from today’s reading is that it is by grace that we all are saved, it is not because I was born into a Christian family or because I’m better than others, or by my works but rather the grace of God and it is sufficient for everyone. I wonder why some of the Jewish are being so hard about getting saved, the thing that even them cannot pay for if we look at it very well self they are the one that should be punished for all they have done but Christ still love them and they are making it difficult for those that want to be saved. We should not be like that, we should not be hard on people who want to repent genuinely, if God is not condemning them, then it should not be coming from us. Give grace to people as you have received.

@Faithful You’re right, we are all saved by grace (Eph 2:8)

@Faithful Exactly my learning point from vs 1 and 2… Even in the church today we say you must be baptized to be a child of God. You must cover your hair as a lady and so on…. circumcision was something so serious back then, in fact Abraham was forced to be circumcised at an old age to proof that he is chosen by God… But message, missions and ministry are different. We should never force our convictions on others

Another thing here is partnership, having like an accountability partner, we can see that one man’s weakness is another man’s strength, they would be available to help each other up when they are weak. And although Paul and Barnabas assignment was together, it requires partnering with each other (when God said Separate into me Paul and Barnabas) But then when they could not agree on one thing they had to go their separate ways. For them to part ways we should know that the disagreement was so much, and what I saw there is that separation does not mean Failure. That God has set them apart together for his use and they could not agree does not mean they will not do well individually. And I did not blame Paul for not agreeing with Barnabas view, he was thinking ahead, he knew that this work they are doing requires one being accountable and reliable not that at some point you will give up and come back again, you have to be all in. and considering that John mark had left them before he don’t want that to happen again. But on the other hand Barnabas believed in second chance. I feel like that was the main reason of their disagreement which shows their strength and weakness.

@Faithful so the issue with Barnabas is that, he’s a mentor, when everyone gave up on Saul and not coming to him, he took him to the Apostles, he keeps looking out for him and that’s what he’s trying to do with Mark, not giving up on him and wanting to mentor him but the calling on Paul was too much to allow one man in error ruin anything or shortchange him.

Reading this Chapter shows why we need to be deep in GOD’s word and allow the Holy Spirit to express Himself in our lives. Paul and Barnabas if not well grounded would have yielded to the wrong teaching on circumcision. Those guyz that were teaching the wrong principle about salvation were Christians, Infact Apostles i believe but at the point, they were exalting tradition more than salvation - what Jesus gave us. They themselves did not understand what they have, they did not understand salvation and I’m glad Paul and Barnabas stood their ground. Also when there’s confusion, we should be open to learn and unlearn. Everyone was ready for what the Apostles will say, so it was ignorance error from those men and we can see that we are saved by Grace not works lest no man should boast

@Eyitope seriously ehn, learning and unlearn… This really was difficult for me. There were times God gave me a message and I held on to it. Later on he changed my convictions on some things and I would be like “But God you said this..” Then God revealed to me that some messages are for a phase, never for a lifetime.

Another thing here is accountability! We are all in the evangelical ministry so it is important that we go out there and tell people about Christ but here we can see that’s not enough, some needs check ups and follow ups and that’s what Paul was telling Barnabas to let them do. Like @faithful already said, in partnership, there should be agreement 💯 we all remember Amos 3:3 “can two work together unless they are agreed” disagreement causes separation between those called to be separated for the works of GOD but the sweet part is they both found agreeable partners…… my point is here even in marriage, disagreement will lead to separation, and for the single ones, don’t marry someone you don’t align in faith with, it will lead to problem. Note: unlike Paul and Barnabas, you might not find another agreeable partner oooo so pls let’s get it right - for the singles I pray the Lord help the single brothers and sisters here that we will get it right in Jesus name.

@Eyitope exactly, we are more agreeable than one another. That doesn’t mean they are against you
