At some points in our Christian walk, we will recount our experiences (vs 1-15) with God to others, my sincere pray is that we have divine encounters throughout our lifetime, Amen. The ones that when we recount will make others glorify God (vs 18), Amen. @ All: I recall seeing a post on My Leader’s status one time about this; I have a question about vs 28; what the Prophet Agabus did, how do we differentiate it from “yemiwo” the act of going to prophets to tell the future or to inquire of matters such as whom to marry? That’s if there is a difference or are they in the same category?

@Mary A prophet is one who is called and inspired by the Holy Spirit to declare God’s revealed message — a vessel God chooses to speak through when He wills, for the edification, guidance, and direction of His people. Agabus was such a prophet, moved by the Spirit to deliver God’s message. This contrasts with the practice of “yemiwo,” which resembles divination, where people seek “a word” to satisfy self-centered desires, driven by curiosity, anxiety, or the need for control, rather than genuine submission to God’s will.

@Joy I agree with what you said, @Mary the scripture said some prophets came down to Antioch and one of them through the Spirit predicted a severe famine. One thing to note there is that he was led to do so. He did not act on his own accord. You going and being led by God to say something is different from someone coming to you to intentionally seek Gods face for them. Something I’m not even praying for before Now I have to be intentional about hearing God for you intentionally, sometimes they will even say the wrong thing in a bid to just say something, they will say what they see and what they did not see too. So, personally I don’t believe in it, if you can’t do it for yourself and hear God, if God can’t trust you to tell you your life partner, how will he trust strangers. Seeking out for prophecy means you are not trust God enough to speak to you, desperation causes it too.

@Joy this is well articulated, GOD bless you. Just to add to this, Amos 3:7 “Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.” And also Deut. 18:18 “I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.” So prophets are those assigned by GOD over a nation (Jeremiah 1:5), his people (Hebrew 1:1-2), as a vessel to speak 🗣️ GOD’s mind literally, we see how GOD used Isaiah! But people going to seek for fortune tellers to me are those that are not familiar with GOD, they are not His sheep, so they do not hear His voice (John 10:27). Even prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 8:19-20 said “when they asked us to consult the fortune tellers, we will tell them No, and instead, we will read the scriptures”.

Vs 1-18 tells a lot about how men were intentional about Christ. The Apostles and brethren knows the truth that we should not be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2Cor 6:14) so they were ready to challenge Peter not just them doing Yes sir, Yes sir, like most of us do now since we don’t know what the word itself says. I could see passion in them, also them looking out for Peter. Peter on the other hand was so humble, not saying how dare you question my authority? I know Jesus more than y’all, I do more miracles than y’all, who are you people self ?. Rather, Peter took his time to explain the whole situation that who I’m I to withstand GOD ? Note: Peter did not think about what will people say, he obeyed GOD first and the people seeing that this is GOD’s move, they celebrated which shows their questioning was out of concern not jealousy.

Today’s reading thought me to never limit God to what he can do, and that the fact that I’m a believer does not make me better than other, God is merciful unto all. Another thing also is that God indeed chooses the foolish things of this world to shame the wise because the prosecution that scattered the church, which was suppose to make them stop taking about him, opened door for more. They went abroad keeping up the gospel of the lord and God was with them. Lastly Faith/ believing in God is not about the spiritual experience or exercise alone, it’s about love, and love is an action thing, you can’t claim to love only by words You have to show it, play it out. And a good example is the people when prophecy came out that there will be severe famine, they came all out and helped in a way they could help.

To add to what all that has been said, I see the need for mentors here, the need to listen to sermons from preachers that speaks the truth. Barnabas brought Saul to Antioch, then they taught people for a whole year, it was after this they were called Christians for the first time, they’ve been there all this while ooo, but when someone else more knowledgeable came around, then they went deeper, their Spirit was charged and something shifted for people to say these ones are Christ like….. As we read the Bible, we need to go to church for fellowship with the brethren to know more, listen to sermons even online, tune to Spirit filled music and many more. GOD won’t show everybody that famine will come, just few, but a brother in isolation might miss that, more reason why gathering like this is important! And as much as we are in Alignment with GOD, we are settled, imagine Christians saving the world, telling them what to come, not even a sorcerer could predict the famine, I pray GOD help us in Jesus name!
